Privacy Policy
Last updated October 31, 2026
WOUT is operated by Nav Collective LLC (“WOUT”, “we”). This policy covers the WOUT iOS and Android apps and this website. We collect as little as we can, we never sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your WOUT account
Sign-in is required to use the mobile app and this website’s interactive map, place search, reviews and news assistant. You can read the public website, help and legal pages without signing in. Your language, area, interests, saved items, chosen name and report drafts are stored on your device.
What we collect
- Email address, so we can create your account and send you a sign-in code. It is never shown to other people.
- Reports you choose to publish: the category and state (for example “road blocked”), an optional short note, the area, the time you observed it and, only if you add one, the point on the map where it is happening. Public report responses exclude your account identifier, name, email, People profile and personal location. Free-text notes wait for human review. Reviewers can redact or remove a note; an incident point is withheld unless a reviewer explicitly approves it for public display.
- Community: posts and replies, an area and the separate public alias you choose for Community. This alias is not taken from your email, account name or People name. Ordinary Community discussions show that alias; safety alert posts and their replies do not show an author alias. New posts and replies wait for human review before publication. Pending content is private to its author and authorized reviewers.
- News comments: the text you submit, the story and your chosen Community alias. Comments appear for you with a sent receipt and require human review before other readers can see them. Reviewers can redact or remove comments. Other readers receive the reviewed text and alias, without your account identifier, email, People profile or location. Reports of comments and account blocks remain private.
- People sharing: your chosen People name, friend connections and sharing permissions. If you send a check-in, WOUT shares that fixed position with the people you select. Live sharing is a separate choice that updates your position until the time you choose or until you stop it. This is separate from a public report’s incident point and from your Community alias. Information someone has already seen or copied cannot be recalled.
- Your responses to other reports (confirm, not here, dispute), and any posts you report or people you block. These are private and are never shown to others.
- Place reviews: when you post a review, your chosen public name, star rating, comment and attached photos are public. We associate the review with your signed-in account to limit duplicate ratings; your email and account identifier are never included in public reviews. Photos are resized and re-encoded to remove embedded metadata before they are saved.
- Location. If you allow it, the app uses your location while it is open to show what is nearby. Nearby browsing uses your location on your device. Personal coordinates are sent to WOUT when you explicitly enable People location sharing; an incident point is sent when you deliberately attach it to a report. These are different choices. Only when you explicitly start live sharing and grant the separate background permission can WOUT update your position with the screen locked or another app open. A check-in does not track later movement. Device settings, connectivity and system restrictions can interrupt live updates.
- Sign-ups on this website: the email address or WhatsApp number you enter, and your name and area if you give them. We use them only to send you the link to open your WOUT account.
- Optional usage analytics: if you agree in the mobile app, PostHog receives feature-use events, active time on app screens, return visits, action outcomes, basic app and device information, and a non-public account identifier. We exclude your precise location, selected zone, messages, contact details and report or place identifiers from these events. Session recording and automatic touch capture are disabled. No usage events are collected before you opt in. You can decline during setup or turn analytics off later in Me; this stops future collection without limiting app access.
- Optional suggested categories: a separate, off-by-default choice uses your interests and recent category selections to suggest categories in Explore. Suggestion scores are stored on this phone for your signed-in account; selections older than 14 days do not affect suggestions. After analytics consent, PostHog also receives category-selection and suggestion-use events and provides a feature-availability setting. Disabling suggestions clears their local history. Disabling analytics also disables suggestions and clears that history. Urgent reports keep their existing ranking.
- Technical data: our hosting providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability.
The website stores your WOUT session in browser storage and a secure, HTTP-only session cookie for its app APIs. These keep you signed in and are removed when you sign out. They are not advertising cookies.
Public identity and private account links
Reports are anonymous to public readers, and ordinary Community discussions are pseudonymous. They are not anonymous to WOUT: we retain private links to the signed-in account for ownership, abuse prevention, moderation and deletion. Authorized reviewers receive the submitted text and incident details without the author’s account identity in the review queue. Do not include names, phone numbers, private addresses, travel routines or other identifying details in free text. A description, a chosen alias, a place or a time can still identify someone. We cannot promise complete anonymity.
Correction and removal requests are handled privately. Moderation records retain the reviewer, decision, time and a short reason for accountability; the audit record does not copy the submitted text. Review is a safety and publication decision, not a certification that an allegation is true.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that run WOUT for us, under their own privacy and security terms:
- Supabase: accounts, sign-in email, reports, Community, People sharing and private moderation records.
- Vercel and Neon: this website, sign-ups, and place reviews and photos.
- Mapbox in the mobile app and OpenFreeMap on the website: map services. Your device requests map data directly, so the provider receives network information such as your IP address and the map area requested, under its own terms.
- An email delivery provider, only to send your sign-in code.
- PostHog: optional mobile usage analytics and, with a separate choice, suggested-category availability. Its servers also receive network metadata such as your IP address; automatic IP-based geolocation is disabled.
Business listings come from the public Overture Maps dataset and contain no personal information about WOUT users. Hosting, authentication, email and map providers may process IP addresses, request metadata and service logs. Their logs and backups follow their own retention and security arrangements; we do not promise that deleting information in WOUT immediately deletes every provider log or backup. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect people from harm.
How long we keep it
Usage analytics already received by PostHog follow the project’s configured retention. Turning analytics off does not erase earlier events. To request access to or deletion of those events, email support@getwout.app or message us on WhatsApp.
Reports stop appearing publicly when they expire (between one and six hours depending on the category). We keep your account, stored reports and responses until you delete your account or request removal. Community content stops appearing publicly after 30 days; this public display limit does not by itself delete stored submissions, private account links or moderation records. You can withdraw your own pending submissions and request deletion of stored content. Website sign-ups are kept until your account is open, or until you ask us to delete them.
News comments remain visible until withdrawn, removed through moderation or the story is retracted. Withdrawal removes public visibility; stored submissions remain linked privately to your account for moderation and abuse prevention until account deletion or a removal request. Deleting your account also deletes your news comments and their associated reports and review records.
People sharing stores the latest delivered position for each sharing permission, not a route history. Access ends when the sharing permission expires or is revoked. Expired or revoked positions are cleared by the existing periodic cleanup; a recipient may still have information already downloaded on their device.
Place reviews remain public until removed. To request removal of a website review and its photos, email support@getwout.app or message us on WhatsApp from the email associated with your WOUT account. Reviews are stored separately from time-limited reports and are not evidence that a current report has been verified.
Delete your account
In the app, open You → Account → Delete account to delete your account and associated reports, Community submissions and responses. Website place reviews and photos are stored separately: request their removal as described above. Private moderation accountability records may remain without a copy of the submission text, and provider logs or backups may persist under their own retention arrangements. You can also ask us to delete your information: email support@getwout.app or message us on WhatsApp from the email on your account. Information stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. To do so, email support@getwout.app or message us on WhatsApp.
Children
WOUT is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Sign-in sessions are stored in your phone’s secure storage. Access to our databases is restricted, and public responses are designed to exclude private account details. No security measure can guarantee that information will never be exposed; avoid submitting details that could put you or someone else at risk.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
